MELT Program

Class 1 Truck Driver Training

We understand the needs of students and we created a MELT delivery that id better suited to newcomers to Canada or newcomers to trucking industry

What do I need to get started?

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Hold a full class 5 licence
  • Have class 1A licence (class 1 authorized instruction)
  • Have an “I” endorsement (authorized air brake instruction)

What is included?

  • 40-hours classroom
  • 40.5 hours in-yard
  • 41.0 hours driving
  • Up to 80 hours of observation
  • Up to 4 MPI road tests (equivalent to 5 MPI single phase attempts)
  • All classroom materials
  • A free set of class 1 study cards
  • 2 months free online class 1 training video series subscription
  • Eligible for tuition tax credit – Form T2202 provided
  • $750 credit towards additional micro courses

What is not included?

  • Hi-Vis Safety Vest required (available for sale)
  • Work Gloves required (available for sale)
  • $50 MPI service may be required for students who need to self-book additional road test.

Good to know!

  • In-person classroom with small class sizes
  • MPI is currently providing up to two Phase 1’s and up to two Phase 2’s with course bookings directly to schools
  • Students must pass minimum standards to be eligible for a road test
  • Students who live in Winnipeg, must test only in Winnipeg
  • Students may have to book their own Phase 2’s directly with MPI
